P0401: Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Flow Insufficient Detected

The ECM commands the EGR valve open during cruising to introduce inert exhaust gas into the combustion chamber, lowering peak combustion temperatures and reducing Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) emissions. The ECM verifies flow by monitoring MAP sensor pressure rise or temperature rise in the intake manifold. If expected flow is not detected, P0401 triggers.
