Honda Factory Service Advisories & Field Notes

P0172 / Oil Dilution on 1.5L Turbo (Civic/CR-V/Accord)

In short-trip cold weather driving, unburned gasoline condenses past piston rings into the oil pan, raising engine oil level and triggering rich codes (P0172). Honda issued software updates for the PCM cold-start fuel map.

P0300 / P0301-P0304 on 3.5L V6 J-Series (VCM Fouling)

When Variable Cylinder Management shuts off rear cylinders for fuel economy, oil seeps past piston rings and fouls spark plugs. Installing an aftermarket VCM disabler kit keeps all 6 cylinders active and stops plug fouling permanently.

P0420 on Accord/Civic

Always inspect the exhaust flex pipe immediately forward of the downstream catalytic converter. Flex joint cracks draw in false oxygen and falsely trigger P0420.
